In an era dominated by hyperconnectivity and the instantaneous dissemination of information, this project offers a deep and critical reflection on the power and influence of viral memeplexes in contemporary culture.
Drawing on the creation and publication of memes, Julián Brangold crafts a book to meditate on these creations. Both the p images and his texts make up a coherent and expansive work to be consumed online.
His exploration unravels the layers and complexities of viral phenomena that inhabit the soft margins of our digital interactions.
These manifestations represent the blurred border between digital culture and human experience, where memes not only act as vehicles of entertainment, but also as agents of social and political change.
The work proposes a holistic approach to interrogating these memeplexes, urging the viewer to reconsider their ephemeral and often trivial nature. Addressing the intersections between art, technology, and sociology, it raises challenging questions about authenticity, truth, and power in the digital age.
In addition to analyzing the proliferation of memes in the digital space, Julián elaborates a strong critique on the impact they have on the formation of narratives, the dissemination of ideologies, and the manipulation of emotions.
Unraveling soft edge phenomena: a holistic interrogation into viral memeplexes challenges the conventional perception of memes as mere entertainment elements. It highlights the latent power of these digital phenomena and their ability to profoundly and enduringly influence the social fabric.
This ingenious reflection on the role of memeplexes encourages visitors to immerse themselves in the fascinating poetics of their texts and deepen their understanding of these dynamics in global digital culture.
Born in 1986 in Buenos Aires, Julián Brangold studied media communication and film direction. Throughout his career, he has participated in various clinics and workshops led by different artists. His work has been exhibited in numerous collective shows in art centers in Argentina, and he has also been selected to participate in contests and awards. His work has gained international projection with collective exhibitions in Germany, the United States, and Italy. In 2020, he was part of the artist program at the Torcuato Di Tella University in Argentina. Additionally, he served as the programming director at MOCA, a museum specializing in contemporary digital art in New York, where he deepened his use of technology as an artistic media. Currently, his practice focuses on exploring technology as a central element of creation, research, and critique. In this regard, he experiments with tools such as artificial intelligence and blockchain to explore the internet as a cultural ecosystem, viral phenomena, subcultures, and the myths that emerge in the online universe.
